Online dating is ripe for disruption

Dating apps thrive on failure — the longer you fail to find love, the more they profit:

If users fail to find love, they need to pay more — renewing subscriptions and paying for premiums to boost visibility. Every missed connection is revenue for the apps. But if users succeed and find love, the platforms lose not one, but two paying customers.

That’s the paradox at the heart of the industry: the more effective they are, the faster they kill their own business.

Like film scores, there’s always a hidden time signature shaping what happens. In Game of Thrones, the time signature drags everyone toward destruction. In A Beautiful Mind, it pulls John Nash toward discovery. In dating apps, the rhythm is profit — and it inevitably drags users toward failure.

Online dating sites weren’t working for me, so I’m building my own.

Let’s do the numbers

According to Yahoo Finance, Match Group’s shares are plunging and it‘s cutting its workforce 13% in a restructuring push. Match’s paying users are falling as demand slowdown intensifies. Bumble is laying off 30% of its staff. Wall Street is hearing the same refrain from both: the way forward is to “leverage AI” to improve algorithmic matching.

But those algorithms don’t actually match people in any meaningful way. Nearly every dating app reduces human connection to just two objective datapoints: age and location. Conventional software has handled those datapoints handily for decades. There have never been enough high-quality, emotional datapoints in the system, so AI has nothing of value to work with. Garbage in, garbage out.

That’s where MagneticMatch™ changes the equation. Magnetic Match is the beacon — the way out of that broken rhythm. The only way everyone actually gets what they came for.

Our AI-driven system guides, scaffolds and coaches users to provide and shape the rich emotional content that AI can use — the data that actually captures the essence of a person. Instead of just age and location, MagneticMatch™ leverages AI to capture how people express themselves — language patterns, values, preferences, even emotional tone — the data that actually predicts compatibility. Only then can AI generate connections that feel magnetic and meaningful.

And what about the incumbents? They’re stuck. They can’t abandon their subscription revenue model — it’s all they know. They can’t erase years of user distrust and reputational damage. And they don’t have the framework to capture the high-value data required to make AI deliver meaningful connections.

Every single dating app runs on the same failing revenue model so all of them are vulnerable — the entire $10B industry.

Which means the moment one company proves a better model — free to the user, powered by meaningful data and aligned with success instead of failure — the legacy players don’t just stumble. They collapse.

Oh, and one more thing…our revenue comes from advertising and strategic partnerships, exactly the model I used with TweenTribune, where I scaled to millions of users yielding a profit margin of 73.6%

So I’m not just blowing smoke.

My name is Alan Jacobson. I'm a web developer, UI designer and AI systems architect.

I have 13 patent applications pending before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. They are designed to prevent the kinds of tragedies you can read about here.

I want to license my AI systems architecture to the major LLM platforms—ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Llama, Co‑Pilot, Apple Intelligence—at companies like Apple, Microsoft, Google, Amazon and Facebook.

Collectively, those companies are worth $15.3 trillion. That’s trillion, with a “T” — twice the annual budget of the government of the United States. What I’m talking about is a rounding error to them.

With those funds, I intend to stand up 1,414 local news operations across the United States to restore public safety and trust.

AI will be the most powerful force the world has ever seen.

A free, robust press is the only force that can hold it accountable.
