I don’t “own” these 1,400+ newspapers. I hold them in trust. A public trust.

Publisher is not swagger. It’s stewardship.

Here is the job:

• Tell the truth fast. Fix errors faster. If we get something wrong, we say “I was wrong,” not “mistakes were made.”
• Serve the public first. No paywalls on life-and-safety. No cozying up to power. No hostage notes to readers. We earn attention by being useful every day.
• We see the whole board. Aviate, navigate, communicate. We don’t chase noise. We connect the dots and say what it means, plainly.
• Local comes first. City hall, schools, cops, courts, water, power, hospitals. Names, dates, stakes. If it affects a neighbor, it’s news.
• Do the work, not the pose. We will design, report, edit, and ship on deadline. No golf. No dinners over deadlines. People are counting on us.
• Spend the money where it helps. We give it away now to stand up newsrooms, not someday through a distant foundation. Cash to reporters, editors, photographers, developers. Tools that work. Systems that don’t break on deadline.
• Guardrails, always. PersistentMemory, Trust Integrity Stack, governed notice. Audit trails. Receipts. If AI touches a story, we say how. If a model hallucinates, we own it and fix it.
• No heroes, no villains, no pets. Praise is earned in print. So is scrutiny.
• We don’t borrow trust. We earn it line by line, day by day. When we fall short, we make it right in full view of the public.

I am building 1,414 daily online papers because the work is needed. That’s the whole sentence.

Hold me to it.

I’m duty-driven about this work. I have an awesome (vast) opportunity to make the world better. It would be wrong not to act.
